There have been many conversations and writings about the health issues of former India cricketer Vinod Kambli for the last few weeks. At the same function held today in remembrance of late Ramakant Achrekar, who coached Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, Kambli was present at the event. Some viral videos on social media showed Kambli even failing to manage himself well. But now, Kambli has started to open up on the health issues he is currently facing. The 52-year-old ‘better’ but around a month ago, suffered a health scare.
Kambli said that he is suffering a urine infection, but had an attitude–his wife and children were with him like a rock and got him back on his feet. He added that Ajay Jadeja, a former India all-rounder, came to see him as well.
“I am better now. My wife takes care of me a lot. She took me to 3 different hospitals and told me ‘You have to get fit’. Ajay Jadeja also came to visit me. It felt nice. I was suffering from a urine problem. It was just flowing. My son, Jesus Cristiano, picked me up and brought me back to my feet. My daughter, who is 10 years old, and my wife came to help me. This happened one month ago. My head started spinning; I collapsed and fell down. The doctor told me to get admitted,” Kambli told Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel.
Kambli also recalled the 224 he made against England at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
“I will treasure it the most: the double hundred I scored at Wankhede. Had Achrekar sir with me, and our teammates….what a team that was. We had Anil Kumble, Rajesh Chauhan, Venkatesh Prasad. We used to win a lot. Against Sri Lanka, we used to have some wonderful battles. I used to tell him ‘Murali, haath to seedha kar (Get your arms straight).’ He would then reply in his native language,” he recalled.
