Indian legendary cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who is a key contributor to India’s victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, has turned his attention to making predictions for the T20 World Cup 2024. The competition is slated to take place in the West Indies and the USA which involves 20 teams in June after the conclusion of IPL 2024.
There are several strong teams such as India, Australia, and defending champions England, however, did not find their favorite to win the trophy. Instead, he identified the sixth-ranked T20I team in the world, South Africa, as his choice for the winner of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Yuvraj Singh pointed out South Africa’s impressive performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup, despite not securing a World Cup title. He expressed confidence in the Proteas’ capability to achieve success in the upcoming T20 tournament.
“I have a different opinion here than I want them to, and I think South Africa will win). They have not won a white-ball tournament and the way I saw their progress in the 50-over World Cup. And then obviously there’s Pakistan, which is very dangerous.” said Singh in conversation alongside Gautam Gambir.
South Africa did not have a very good tournament in the 2022 T20 World Cup and failed to qualify in the semi-finals. They even lost a match against the Netherlands by 13 runs.
