VIDEO: Ball Tampering Blame Over Ravindra Jadeja, Ravi Shastri Comes In Support

After commentators and the media raised concerns about a possible ball-tampering incident on Day 1 of the first Test match between India and Australia, former Indian all-rounder and head coach Ravi Shastri defended Ravindra Jadeja in his way.

During the middle of the day’s game, a video emerged showing the left-arm spinner getting something from Mohammed Siraj before walking up to the crease to bowl. With his right hand, he took the material from the pacer and used it on his bowling finger, which created some controversy.

According to numerous reports, Jadeja was just putting cream on his wounded index finger, and the conflict with the match referee has already been resolved. It should be noted that the substance was not in any way applied to the ball, eliminating the possibility of ball tampering.

Shastri responded harshly when questioned about the concerns expressed by former cricket players and Australian media when they criticized Ravindra Jadeja for using the foreign substance.

While discussing the matter on Star Sports, the former head coach said, “I have not heard much about it. I have asked two questions. Was there any problem with the Australian team? The answer was ‘no’. Did the match referee come into play? He was told about it, he cleared everything, and the matter ended. Why are we discussing anybody else?”

He further added,” And to be honest, ointment as a reliever, the match referee would have been told if there was any decision to be taken or action, he would have taken it. By the way, on this track, you don’t need anything, the ball will turn.”

Jadeja had a spectacular second session and finished with figures of 5-47 in the first innings, including the key dismissals of Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith.
