Veteran Indian cricketer announces retirement from all forms of cricket

Piyush Chawla, one of India’s top spinners, announced his retirement from all types of cricket on Friday. He shared the news on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the support he’s received throughout his career. In his post, he said, “It’s time to say goodbye to the game I love. From representing India to winning the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2011, I feel so lucky to have had these moments. I’ll always cherish these memories.”

Chawla also thanked the IPL teams he played for, including Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Mumbai Indians. He called his time in the IPL a special part of his career and remembered his late father, who he credits for his journey in cricket.

He’s been in the game since he was 15, playing for India U19 and Uttar Pradesh U22 before making his first-class debut at 17. Over his career, he played three Test matches, taking 7 wickets, 25 ODIs with 32 wickets, and 7 T20Is where he grabbed 4 wickets. His last game for India was a T20 against England in December 2012. Chawla is now looking forward to starting a new chapter in his life while holding onto the lessons and spirit of cricket.
