Following a sorry performance in the 2021 T20 World Cup, Indian cricket team spinner Varun Chakravarthy exposed startling aspects of his mental condition after getting intimidating phone calls. Varun claimed in a recent encounter that he received phone calls, his house was found and he was driven back from the airport after his subpar shows. Though he did not do particularly well in the T20 World Cup where India were eliminated at the Super 12 stage, Varun established himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Varun just confessed that the pressure became unbearable for him; he did not get any wicket in the contest. He said depression plagued him and he was in a black period.
Open about the fans’ reaction following his campaign, he gave disturbing specifics on how he was stalked at the airport, his house was followed, and he got scary phone calls.
I can’t use the 2021 World Cup. I even sank into despair then. I entered the team with great expectations, but I did not even have one wicket. He also said in a YouTube show with Gobinath that for three years after that I was not even considered for selection.
“Before reaching in India, I received intimidation calls even after the 2021 T20 World Cup.” If I attempted to show myself in India, they claimed I wouldn’t be able to. Even my house and other items were found. Coming from the airport, I noticed a bike traveling behind me. Still, I realize the fans or followers are rather emotional.
A major performer for India in the Champions Trophy 2025, Varun has made a strong return. India won the championship; he claimed nine wickets in three games.
