Varun Chakravarthy achieves a special feat after making his ODI debut against England

Varun Chakravarthy forcefully got included in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) series against England by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee, and on Sunday made his international cricketer’s debut in the 50-over format. Varun made his India debut in the second ODI against England at Cuttack. His age is 33, a cricketer from Kolkata Knight Riders, and thus Varun made history by becoming the oldest cricketer to debut in One-Day Internationals for India, apart from the first one-day match in the year 1974.

Overall, however, it is still Farokh Engineer who sits atop the list of oldest ODI debutants for India-36 years and 138 days old at the time of his debut back in 1974.

Varun was a last-minute selection for the Indian squad for the ODI series against England, selected by Ajit Agarkar’s selection committee after he impressed with his previous performance against plural opponents in the T20I series. Unfortunately, the spinner found no place in the first ODI played at Nagpur. In the second ODI against England, Kuldeep Yadav was chopped down to make way for Chakravarthy.

Virat Kohli came back into the squad having recovered from a sore knee, while Yashasvi Jaiswal was put on bench for Chakravarthy’s debut for Team India. For England, Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson, and Jamie Overton returned to play in the XI.
