The women’s Premier League is about to start, and all the franchises have been setting their cards for the upcoming season. UP Warriorz has appointed Deepti Sharma as the vice-captain for the first season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Recently, they have given the command of the team in the hands of Australia’s wicketkeeper batter Alyssa Healy.
UP Warriorz bagged Deepti for Rs 2.60 crore. She is the fourth most expensive player in the Women’s Premier League after Smriti Mandhana (3.4 crores), Australia’s Ashley Gardner (3.2 crores), and England’s Natalie Seaver (3.2 crores).
On being named the vice-captain, Deepti said, “As a player from Uttar Pradesh, I am extremely happy not only to be a part of the UP Warriors team but also to be named as the vice-captain of the team. Together with skipper Alyssa Healy and other senior players, we hope that we can enable the team to work well and play some great cricket. We hope that our performance in WPL can be a source of inspiration for young women players from UP and we are eagerly waiting for the tournament to begin.”
England’s John Lewis is the head coach of the UP Warriorz team. Anju Jain as the assistant coach. Former Australian cricketer Ashley Noffke has been appointed as the bowling coach. Four-time world champion Lisa Sthalekar has been appointed as the team’s mentor.
