The former head coach of Team India, Ravi Shastri, recalled the time when he first saw Rinku Singh. Ravi Shastri praised Rinku Singh, saying that “he has got a cool head.” Rinku Singh was first picked by knight riders in the 2018 IPL auction.
However, things changed drastically for Rinku when he announced his arrival in the IPL in 2022 in grand style. In 2023, Rinku Singh showed his potential by hitting Yash Dayal for five consecutive sixes, helping his side win a thrilling encounter against the Gujarat Titans.
In a video shared by IPL on their X handle, Ravi Shastri said, “I met Rinku. I have been commenting on him from the outside, but when I first met him, he was as strong as an ox. He doesn’t carry too much baggage and has a very calm head under pressure. He is very mature under pressure. He has a very clear teaching process under pressure; a lot of young players sitting in crowds want to be like him.”.
Rinku Singh is in contention to be picked for India’s T-20 World Cup squad, which is scheduled to be played in the USA and West Indies in the month of June.
Apart from Rinku, Shastri also went on to appreciate all the other young players for carrying less baggage.
Shastri said, “Meeting with young players is a thrilling experience because they are the future; the quicker they are given chances, the better.”
Shastri further added, “You play your best cricket when you don’t carry that baggage. You know my love for young players because they sort of create that balance in the team of youth and experience. With their fearless approach, they also keep senior players on their toes. And they don’t have any baggage on their shoulders.”.
