Unveiling the Conversation: Rohit Sharma’s Chat with Rahul Dravid

India skipper Rohit Sharma has shared the details of his conversation with head coach Rahul Dravid on the latter’s decision to leave the Indian cricket team. Prior to the team’s T20 World Cup 2024 opener against Ireland, Sharma stated at a news conference that he attempted to persuade Dravid to extend his contract.

Following the T20 World Cup, Dravid will step down from his post, having declined to stay on until the competition ends in 2024. Applications have already been opened for the position by the Indian cricket board of control. When he was speaking about Dravid, Sharma became upset and claimed that he would find it tough to see Dravid’s last day as the India coach.

“He was my first international captain. We saw him play. He is a huge role model for all of us. He did a lot for the team over the years. I saw him when he came as coach. We won almost all the major tournaments with him. He is the first person who said that this is what we have to do, this is important for the team. I have personally tried to convince him to continue as coach, but he has his own priorities. I will not be able to see him go,” Rohit Sharma said.

The Indian senior men’s national team will see Gautam Gambhir take over as head coach in place of Rahul Dravid, according to sources. During the second half of the IPL 2024 season, there was increased talk about Gautam Gambhir taking on the head coach post. It was unclear, though, if the former opener would express interest in the challenging position given his recent reestablishment with the Knight Riders.
