Pakistan’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign got off to a terrible start when they lost to the USA in an exciting Super Over in Dallas, Texas, their opening match of the competition.
Pakistan appeared unimpressive in both their bowling and batting departments, and their captain Babar Azam attributed the loss to the co-hosts to their terrible performance during the powerplay with the bat and the ball in hand.
He also admitted that they failed to “assess the conditions” properly and it also came back to hurt them
In his post match presentation Babar Azam said,”First six overs while batting, we couldn’t capitalise. We took momentum but back-to-back wickets hurt us ,(Bowling) We were not up to the mark in the first six. Didn’t take wickets, spinners didn’t either. We came back in the end but couldn’t finish well. hope to do well in the future. (Result makes it) Very hard, all credit to the USA who did well in all three departments. That’s why they won. There was moisture in the pitch. It was two-paced. As professionals, we had to assess the conditions better.”
As a batter and captain, Babar had an unmemorable game. In an attempt to up the ante, the right-hander’s fellow batters were put under tremendous pressure as he struggled to find gaps and rotate the strike early in the innings.
The entrance of Shadab Khan in the middle was what gave the Pakistani skipper some respite when he was batting at a strike rate of less than 50.00 at one point. With some aggressive shots, Shadab put the pressure back on the bowlers from the USA. Babar ultimately got out with a score of 44 off 43 deliveries .
