Tim David Gets The Maiden ODI Call-up, Joins The Australian Squad For South Africa Series

A couple of Australian stars are suffering from injuries and hence they were unable to make a place in the Australian squad for South Africa. Earlier Matthew Wade was added to the T20I squad in place of injured Glenn Maxwell. Now, the Australian Cricket management has added the destructive batter Tim David to the squad for the upcoming ODI series.

David is yet to make his debut in 50-over cricket. The batter smashed 64 runs in 28 balls against South Africa in the first T20I played at Durban. However, there is still no confirmation whether Tim David will be part of the Australian squad for the ODI World Cup or not.

The chief selector of Cricket Australia, “Tim is already here for the T20 series which offers an opportunity to see how his game can translate to the one-day format. He will provide an extra option for us in that power role at the back end of an innings.”

In the first T20I, Tim David came with his powerful batting display and stitched a partnership of 97 runs with the stand-in captain Mitchell Marsh.

The chief selector further said, “The great thing about Tim is he’s very level-headed. He knows his role in T20 cricket can be inconsistent,” Marsh said. “But his ability to win us matches is why he’s in this team.”

“We’ve got full faith. I want him to play however he wants to play every game. I know that if he does that, he’ll win us games. He’s an outstanding asset for Australian cricket.”
