As the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) prepare for the IPL 2024 Eliminator match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR), a report has indicated that the team had to cancel their sole practice session before the game due to a security issue.
Due to concerns over Virat Kohli’s security, RCB cancelled their practice session. They were set to train at the Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, in preparation for the Eliminator on Wednesday, but had to forgo these plans.
According to a report from Anandbazaar Patrika, the Bengaluru based franchise also did not hold a press conference on the eve of the Eliminator match against the Royals due to the security threat.
The Gujarat Police opined that the main reason for cancelling the practice session and press conference was concerns over Virat Kohli’s security. Additionally, the police reportedly arrested four individuals in Ahmedabad on suspicion of terrorist activity.
“Virat Kohli learned about the arrests after arriving in Ahmedabad. He is a national treasure, and his security is our utmost priority,” Vijay Singha Jwala, a police officer, said. “RCB did not want to take a risk. They informed us that there would be no practice session. Rajasthan Royals were also informed about the development, but they had no problems going ahead with their practice.”
