“This will be another level of work but… “Brendon McCullum’s candid admission after becoming England’s coach for white ball format

Brendon McCullum asserted that once he takes over the charge of UK’s white ball squad, he will evaluate himself on the basis of outcomes. Introduced Test cricket revolutionized through its ‘Bazball’ approach by McCullum however has made it so much more fun to watch even though it has resulted in undeniable huge victories. He is set to coach them across all three formats until 2027.

McCullum gave the update in a press conference ahead of England’s third Test against Sri Lanka

“Without doubt, this will add another level of work but some bets are worth taking right? If things don’t go well; I am okay being in that place governed by results,” he was quoted as saying by several media outlets.

Brendon McCullum has been serving as England’s Test coach since mid-2022 currently. The former New Zealand cricketer turned around the long format for Team England with remarkable results over the last two years playing a completely different style of cricket as compared to what he used to do before. Talking about his journey McCullum mentioned that initially, he had very little knowledge about English cricket. But McCullum noted that over the last two years he has spent with them, it has been like an incredible time for me.

“A few years back I didn’t really know much about English cricket, relationships. But fast forward two years and it has been a great experience; I’m loving where I am at,” said Brendon McCullum.

Brendon McCullum also discussed how he understood talent acquisition in English cricket; “I have a greater awareness for the talent that exists in English cricket. Eventually, I looked at the opening and thought what a nice shot it is to take,” he expounded.

During his two-year tenure as coach of the Test team, Brendon McCullum has led England to five series victories. After taking England to a 3-0 success over New Zealand in June 2022, he made an instant impression. England defeated South Africa 2-1 before cleaning Pakistan with 3-0 sweeps. Their next series against New Zealand and India ended on level terms while their Test tour to India was marked by loss 1-4.

Recently, England recorded another 3-0 victory against West Indies, having beaten Sri Lanka by two games out of three match Test series. The first match against Sri Lanka saw England win by five wickets while they won by 190 runs in the second one. As such, they are now hoping for total dominance as they’re scheduled to host Sri Lanka during the third Test match which begins on September 6th.
