Harmanpreet Kaur mentioned that India plans to give their all to win the final match in the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In 2020, India reached the final but was defeated by Australia, led by Meg Lanning, with a difference of 85 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
In the previous tournament in 2023, India managed to reach the semifinals but was again beaten by Australia by just five runs at the Newlands in Cape Town. Harmanpreet expressed confidence that India has the ability to win the whole competition and hold the prestigious trophy.
“Whenever we compete in a big event like the World Cup, we aim to perform well. We’ve shown good results in the past, and hopefully, this time we’ll overcome the hurdle of the final match and achieve victory,” Harmanpreet shared with PTI videos.
Previously, the T20 World Cup was planned to be held in Bangladesh, a place where India has played a lot of cricket. However, due to political issues in Bangladesh, the big event was moved to the UAE, where India hasn’t played much. But Harmanpreet mentioned that the playing conditions in the UAE are likely to be similar to those in India.
“We haven’t played much cricket in the UAE. But the conditions there are expected to be similar to those in India. We will observe how the conditions are there and try to adapt to them as quickly as possible,” she said.
Earlier, India couldn’t keep their Asia Cup title because they lost to Sri Lanka, led by Chamari Athapaththu, in the final match. Sri Lanka won by eight wickets at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. Harmanpreet mentioned that the bowlers have been practicing a lot before the tournament.
“The bowlers are working very hard together, and we hope to do well in this World Cup,” Harmanpreet said.
India will start their journey on October 6 with a big game against Pakistan, led by Fatima Sana, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
