Glenn Phillips, an all-rounder for the Gujarat Titans, is heading back to New Zealand after hurting his groin in an IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6. The team said they wish him a quick recovery. He seemed to be in a lot of pain, and the team physio rushed in to help. After a break, a teammate assisted him off the field.
Last year, the Titans picked up Phillips for his base price of Rs 2 crore during the mega auction, but he hadn’t played a game for them in IPL 2025 before his injury. Right now, it’s unclear who will step in for him. The team is also missing fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who went back to South Africa for a personal reason.
Currently, the Titans have overseas players like England’s Jos Buttler, West Indies’ Sherfane Rutherford, South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee, and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Karim Janat. Shubman Gill leads the Titans, who are at the top of the points table with four wins and one loss in their first five matches. Their next game is against Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday, and then they’ll host Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 19.
