This KKR star wants to open for his franchise

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the defending champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have only managed one win in their first two matches this season. Their latest loss was against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Monday, where they fell short, scoring just 116 runs and losing by 8 wickets. Ramandeep Singh, batting at No. 9, was the team’s second-highest scorer with 22 runs off 12 balls, just behind Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who made 26 off 16 balls.

After the match, Ramandeep expressed his desire to open the batting, saying, I want to open. I always try to bat higher up in the order. Traditionally, he’s played more as a finisher for KKR and hasn’t batted much above the No. 7 spot. With a smile, he made it clear he wants a shot at the opening role.

He also mentioned that he’s willing to take on any role the team needs because he wants to help KKR win. I’m ready to bat wherever the team needs me. I just want to contribute and hopefully, score some match-winning runs, he said.

Things have changed a lot for KKR, going from champions to sitting at the bottom of the 10-team points table. Ramandeep pointed to the IPL mega auction as part of the problem. Mega auctions can be tough. You build a team, and then every few years you have to change it up. But that’s no excuse; every team has to figure out their winning lineup, and that’s what we’re working on too, he explained.
