Chennai Super Kings (CSK), led by the iconic skipper MS Dhoni, has carved its name in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as one of the most successful franchises. With ten final appearances and four title victories under Dhoni’s captaincy, CSK has consistently been a force to reckon with in the tournament. In their quest for a fifth championship, CSK recently secured their place in the IPL final by defeating the defending champions, Gujarat Titans, in a thrilling encounter.
Dhoni’s ability to guide CSK to the playoffs almost every season has become a subject of intrigue among fans and pundits alike. An old interaction between Dhoni and renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle has resurfaced on social media, where Bhogle asks the skipper about the secret behind CSK’s consistent success.
In the video, Bhogle inquires, “How do you manage to make it to the playoffs every year?” To this, Dhoni responds with his trademark humour, “If I tell everyone what it is, they will not buy me in the auction.” This statement from Dhoni reflects his astute understanding of the dynamics of the IPL and the value he brings to his team as a leader.
This season, Dhoni has reinvented himself as a lower-order batsman, coming in at number eight and delivering impactful performances with a flurry of big sixes. While there have been speculations about this potentially being Dhoni’s final year as a player in the IPL, the former Indian captain mentioned that he will take his time before the mini-auction in December to decide on his future in the tournament.
Recently after defeating the Gujarat Titans in the first qualifier in Chennai, Harsha Bhogle had asked whether this match was his last at home. Dhoni responded, “I don’t know, I have eight, nine months to decide. The small auction will be around December, so why take the headache right now? I have ample time to decide.”
“I will always be there for CSK, whether in playing form or sitting somewhere. I don’t really know. But frankly, it takes a heavy toll. I have been out of home since January and practicing since March so we will see.” Dhoni further added.
Dhoni emphasized his unwavering loyalty to CSK, stating that he will always be there for the team, whether in a playing capacity or any other role.
However, Dhoni also acknowledged the toll that the rigorous schedule of the IPL takes on him. Being away from home since January and constantly training since March, he expressed the need to assess the situation and consider the demands it places on him physically and mentally. Dhoni’s influence and leadership have left an indelible mark on CSK and the IPL, making him one of the most iconic figures in the tournament’s history.
