‘They Should Play As MS Dhoni Used To Do’, Sanjay Manjrekar Gives Huge Suggestion To Team India For 2023 ODI World Cup

According to former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar, the current Indian cricket team will have to adopt a strategy similar to former captain MS Dhoni’s approach in order to overcome their struggles in ICC events. As they prepare for the upcoming World Cup on home soil, Manjrekar suggests that India should approach knockout games with the same mindset as any regular match. This quality was best shown by MS Dhoni as the captain of the side.

India clinched the World Cup title under Dhoni’s captaincy during the 2011 edition. The men in blue have not won another ICC event in any format since their victory in the Champions Trophy back in 2013.

Before the ODI World Cup, Rohit Sharma and company will look to gain some momentum in the upcoming Asia Cup. This tournament will be played from August 30, jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

While having a conversation on Star Sports/ESPN Cricinfo’s Selection Day Live Programme, Manjrekar said,”For India, in the ICC events, it’s not about getting through to semis. India’s problem has been the big night. I just hope and pray, with the kind of talent that they have, that they just play like Mahendra Singh Dhoni used to play a semi-final or a World Cup final, like it was any other game. That’s the only challenge for India considering their record in the big tournaments.”

Last year India made progress to the semifinal of the 2022 T20I World Cup. However, the team suffered a loss against Australia at Adelaide.
