“They just gave him a lollypop to suck…”: Harbhajan Strongly Reacted To Exclusion Of Yuzvendra Chahal From T20I

India’s squad announcement for the upcoming series against South Africa brought a mix of joy and scrutiny, notably with Yuzvendra Chahal’s return to the ODI squad. However, the exclusion of the leg-spinner from T20Is drew criticism from veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who expressed his confusion through a lollypop metaphor on his YouTube channel.

Yuzvendra Chahal’s return to the ODI squad after an 11-month hiatus sparked excitement. Having last represented India in August, Chahal took to social media to express his joy. This comeback follows his omission from squads for major tournaments like the Asia Cup, World Cup, and even the Australia T20Is.

Harbhajan Singh voiced his bewilderment over Chahal’s exclusion from the T20I format, using a lollypop metaphor to highlight the perceived lack of clarity in the decision. In a commentary on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan shared his opinions on the selectors’ choices, sparking discussions among cricket enthusiasts.

“There is no Yuzvendra Chahal in T20 format. You kept him in ODIs but not T20Is. They just gave him a lollypop to suck on. We won’t take in the format where you do well but will take for other formats. It’s beyond my understanding,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

During his absence from international cricket, Yuzvendra Chahal showcased his skills in domestic tournaments. Participating in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Chahal claimed 19 wickets in 10 games. His notable performances, including a 6/26 against Uttarakhand, reinforced his determination after being overlooked.

Harbhajan Singh raised concerns about the future of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, and Umesh Yadav, all absent from the Test squad for the South Africa series. Expressing skepticism, Harbhajan questioned whether the selectors communicated with the trio, emphasizing the need for transparency.

“I think the road is tough for a comeback. They have served Indian cricket, and are renowned cricketers. The board should have had a chat with them. They should have been informed why they are not picked and what is a possible path for them in their careers,” mentioned Harbhajan.

As India gears up for the challenging South Africa tour, Harbhajan Singh anticipates a tough road for the trio – Pujara, Rahane, and Yadav. He suggests that the selectors should have discussed the players’ exclusion and outlined potential paths for their future careers.
