Moin Khan, the former captain of Pakistan, has heavily criticized the legendary skipper Ramiz Raja for the way he treated his son Azam Khan. Wicketkeeper-batter Azam’s career has been ruined by body shaming outside the cricket arena and has struggled to maintain his place in the team due to poor performances. Since making his T20I debut in July 2021, Azam has only scored 88 runs at an average of 8.80 in 14 matches. The best score he has made so far is 30 not out.
He scored zero in the only match that he played for Pakistan during the 2024 T20 World Cup as he was dropped from subsequent matches. Moin has condemned the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its then chairman Ramiz for dismissing him.
In an interview with Cricket Pakistan Moin said, “I watched all World Cup (2024) and also matches leading up to it where Azam appeared to be first choice wicketkeeper-batsman. Suddenly, after one match things turned around completely. For instance, he didn’t get any chance keeping wickets after just one match and was eventually axed after being out on the first ball. Hence how can good players come out if there are such sudden changes in them whether they are captains or management?”
.”If we look at the 2022 World Cup, Azam was also selected for the team, but ream has dropped him. In such instances when the chief selector makes a wrong selection he should be removed, however they didn’t have that courage leading to demoralizing a young player.
Also in this World Cup, look at Mohammed Azam’s records. I am not saying that it is only team management or captains who are to blame for what happened. Azam has some deficiencies of his own and should concentrate on becoming stronger both physically as well as mentally while being attentive to the other sportsmen’s fitness routines. In the last month or so I have noticed that he started working on enhancing his level of fitness,” he went on to say.
