West Indies batting legend Brian Lara strongly criticized critics who accused Virat Kohli of being selfish during the 2023 World Cup. According to some critics, in the recently concluded ODI World Cup, Kohli reached his milestone.
The former West Indian critics said that all those critics making verbal comments on Kohli are nothing but jealous of his achievements in cricket.
Virat Kohli had a remarkable 2023 World Cup, setting records with his outstanding performance. He gathered an impressive 765 runs in 11 innings at an average of 95.62 and a strike rate of 90.32. This made him the first player to surpass the 700-run mark in a single edition of the World Cup. The previous record for the most runs in a World Cup edition was held by Sachin Tendulkar who scored 673 runs in the 2003 edition.
Many praised the milestones of Kohli and still playing remarkably in all three formats of cricket. However, former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez claimed Kohli was selfish and said that the player gets slow as he reaches to hundred.
While speaking in favor of Kohli to Anandabazar Patrika, Lara said, “Those [who] are saying all these are jealous of him. They are envious of the amount of runs he has scored. I have faced this too in my career.”
In the 2023 ODI World Cup edition, Kohli smashed three centuries. The first one came against Bangladesh in Pune where he made an unbeaten 103 runs. He scored 101* against South Africa in Kolkata. The third one came at Wankhede Stadium against New Zealand.
