“There should be clarity….” Former Indian Cricketer Gautam Gambhir Lashed Out At BCCI

Indian team management has announced the squad for the upcoming ODIs and T20I series against Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to be started on 3rd January 2023. Some senior players like; Rohit, Virat, and KL Rahul have been given a rest from the series, and in the absence of the senior player, Hardik has been appointed as the new skipper. Surya will be his deputy in the upcoming T20I series.

Speaking on this, former Indian cricketers explained that BCCI selectors should communicate with the players before announcing the squad if they want to go beyond these players.

“There should be clarity. There should be good communication between the selector and these players. If the selectors have decided to look beyond these guys, so be it. I think a lot of countries have done that,” Gambhir suggested.

Gambhir added that selectors should give more clarity to the young players but didn’t understand the fuss about dropping the senior players.

“We make too much of a hue and cry when the selectors and management look beyond the certain individual. Ultimately, it’s not about the individuals but how you want to plan for the next T20 World Cup 2024 because you want to go in there and win it. If these guys haven’t been able to achieve that, I think you never know. Like Surya, the younger generation can go on to achieve that dream,” Gambhir said.

Looking at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022, BCCI is making a team of experienced and talented players; that’s why they have been making opportunities for youngsters. After the exit from the T20 World Cup 2022, BCCI has been looking forward to being the skipper of the Indian team, but they haven’t provided any official update on it. However, second-string skipper Hardik Pandya will handle the vice-captaincy role in the primary eleven of the Indian team.
