Former India legend Sunil Gavaskar got emotional about Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He has termed Mahi as the best captain in IPL history. Gavaskar stated that neither there has ever been a captain like him nor will there ever be a captain like him in the future. Dhoni recently completed 200 matches for CSK as captain. However, Dhoni’s team faced defeat by three runs in this match. Dhoni, 41, is the first player to captain 200 matches for a single team in the IPL.
Suni Gavaskar said, “CSK knows how to escape difficult situations. This has been possible only under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Captaining 200 matches is very difficult. Captaining so many matches is a burden and can also affect his performance. But Mahi is different. He is a different captain. There has never been a captain like him, and there will never be anyone like him in the future.”
Dhoni has been a part of CSK since the inception of IPL. After the ban on Chennai in 2016 and 2017, Dhoni had to play with a different team. He led the Rising Pune Supergiants in 14 matches in the 2016 season, taking his total as captain to 214. Dhoni’s CSK has won the IPL title four times. His record as CSK captain is 120 wins, 79 losses, and one draw.
Gavaskar also praised star batsman Virat Kohli for getting Royal Challengers Bangalore off to a great start this season. Gavaskar said, “Virat Kohli is giving RCB a good start at the beginning of the innings. Kohli deserves a lot of credit for the starts that RCB is getting and the runs the team puts on the board due to his starts. These are good signs for RCB.”
