“The amount of times….”Ben Stokes lavishes massive praise on Joe Root after his Heroics against Pakistan

After overtaking the illustrious Alastair Cook, Joe Root on Wednesday became the greatest in runs scored for the England Test Cricket team. To underline the figure provided above, the captain of the Three Lions Ben Stokes was on Wednesday heard saying that it would be a long time before someone breaks that record. Root went past Cook’s record during the first Test match in Multan, Pakistan, England v. Pakistan on day three. Joe Root bettered Cook’s record at the Multan Cricket Ground after he raised bat at the score of 71 runs.

In a clip on the England Cricket Board’s (ECB) Twitter handle, Stokes was heard noting how Root is selfless in that he prioritises the team above himself.

“The amount of times that he’s won us the game with the bat. Never mind the conversion rate, because, you know, converting these 50s into 100s doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to win the game. But the selflessness that he has, is an incredible attribute for him. He always puts the team first and the fact that he has got so many runs is just a bonus for us. He’s an incredible player. It’s going to take a long, long time for someone to come in and break that record. And you know, an unbelievable feat to score that many runs…,” Stokes said.

Root has now scored 12,473 runs in the long format for England. Before that, Cook’s number of runs in Test cricket was 12472 for the Three Lions.

Moving on to the 43rd over, Root took just one single against Abrar Ahmed of Pakistan to achieve the record. Mere moments after the cricketer from England achieved the milestone, all members of the team in the dressing room stood up and applauded the 33-year-old.

As day three’s lunch is reached, England has declared their score at 232/2 with Ben Duckett and Joe Root not out on 80 and 72 respectively. The lunch break was over and visitors scored 136 runs in just 25 overs against Pakistan on a very pleasant batting pitch in Multan to make it yet another entertaining session for the fans inside the ground.

In the first Test match at Multan, Pakistan, batted first and made a total of 556 runs in their first innings. Among the hosts, Abdul Shafique (102), Shan Masood (151) and Agha Salman (104*) were the main contributors to the runs.
