Technology failure in Kohli’s dismissal? Virat Kohli’s reaction says so

Virat Kohli, India batter, looked dumb-stuck after his dismissal in the 2nd ODI with England in Cuttack on Sunday. Kohli, who missed the series opener at Nagpur due to sore knee, was caught behind for a pallid 5 off 8 balls by Adil Rashid following the successful DRS taken by Jos Buttler, the captain of the England team. Kohli leaned forward to defend Rashid’s flighted delivery, but it turned sharply, beating him on the edge. Despite the strong appeal for a caught behind from England, the umpire shook his head in disagreement.

That’s when England took the review and DRS came out with a spike on UltraEdge. Kohli wasn’t too convinced with the review, to which he reacted very animatedly once the decision was shown on the big screen.

Judging by Kohli’s reaction, he did not think the ball had hit the bat. However, could it be down to a possible malfunction in technology? His reaction certainly suggested so.

This was Kohli’s first appearance for India since playing against Australia in Sydney last month and missing the game in nagpur because of a knee injury.

The batting coach Sitanshu Kotak confirmed that Kohli is available for the match as he spoke to reporters on the day before the second ODI.

“Virat Kohli is fit to play. He has come for practice and is good to go,” said Kotak.

Shreyas Iyer was included in the XI as a last-minute alteration in the absence of Kohli. Iyer, who had made a winning fifty in Nagpur, stated that he had only to play because Kohli could not.
