In a home two-match Test series India will collide with Bangladesh. The series opener is scheduled for September 19 at MA Chidambaram Stadium located in Chennai whereas Green Park Stadium in Kanpur will host the second game on September 27. Following Wednesday’s report by ESPN Cricinfo (September 4), BCCI selectors might unveil the Indian squad for the home series against Najmul Hossain Shanto led side after the conclusion of initial round matches of Duleep Trophy 2024 due to take place in Bengaluru and Anantapur from 5th – 8th September.
During first-round matches slated to take part during Duleep Trophy 2024 some major Indian players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel among others will make appearance.
It is said that India’s red-ball cricketers would report at Chepauk for training on September 12 while their counterparts from Bangladesh have been scheduled to start practicing there too on September 15th.
So far India has beaten Bangladesh in 11 Test out of 13 matches played and in two cases the match ended with a draw.
India, currently leading the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) rankings, aims to overcome Bangladesh in their home series so as to secure a place in the third consecutive WTC final. However, this time around it may not be an easy task as Bangladesh is also high on confidence after defeating Pakistan in two red ball matches at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The last time India played red ball cricket was in March 2024 against England at HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala and won by an innings margin. Star Indian batter Virat Kohli missed all five Tests of the home series against England because she gave birth to her second child. For Bangladesh Series, 35-year-old right-hand batsman who is Indias’ most successful Test captain is all set for his return into Test squad after Kohli absence due to the birth of her second child. But what remains uncertain is whether or not star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will make it back on board after missing out on any game ever since the T20 World Cup final held in 2024.
