Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra has said that BCCI and Indian cricket management are not going to drop Shubman Gill from the Indian World Cup squad even if he doesn’t get his form back in coming time.
Gill has delivered disappointing performances after his impressive knocks in IPL 2023. He has encountered difficulties across different formats during the ongoing West Indies tour and got just 16 runs across three T20I innings.
While talking to his official Youtube Channel, Aakash Chopra said,”God forbid, if he doesn’t score runs, it will be a slight problem for sure. You are not going to drop him from the World Cup team. The World Cup starts on October 5 and you will have to announce your team by September 5, you need to do it a month before, and you might have to announce your final squad by the 15th, there has to be a deadline.”
Aakash Chopra also said that captain Rohit Sharma and team management will support him to an extent to get his form back before the ODI World Cup.
“So he is going to be a part of the Asia Cup team. If he doesn’t score runs and his form continues to be bad, you will play him in the Australia ODIs and try your best that Shubman Gill is definitely there in the 15 if not the XI.”
Chopra said that he does not see any hindrance for Shubman Gill but if he performs exceptionally poorly, Ishan Kishan would be the first choice in the playing XI.
