Starting on Thursday, India will face Bangladesh in their opening Test match at the M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. After more than a month-long layoff, Rohit Sharma-led side are returning to action and there are still uncertainties as to how India will shape up for this game. According to a report by Press Trust Of India (PTI), head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma is likely to opt for three spinners – Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja which means Axar Patel will not get selected. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will be the bowlers in this encounter.
In terms of batting, Pant is expected back in Tests after nearly two years of absence. If that holds true, then Dhruv Jurel who impressed during his debut series against England would have to wait on the sidelines.
Rohit Sharma along with his teammates had another extensive practice session before their first Test against Bangladesh with all 16 squad members turning up for practice at Chepauk on Monday.
Squad members of India, on their third day of training session after their arrival here last week, resumed their practice. The first test is set to begin on Thursday.
As it usually happens, among the first set of batters who faced the nets was Virat Kohli. In the net adjacent to him was Yashasvi Jaiswal who is left handed batsman. While the next set included Rohit Sharma as captain with Shubman Gill and Sarfaraz Khan being part of that same lineup; the latter having come from playing a second round Duleep Trophy match in Anantapur. When concentrating on playing spinners, emphasis was laid on Bangladesh’s slow bowling attack by the captain.
Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant and Mohammad Siraj played against domestic bowlers and received a considerable number of throwdowns.
The practice pitch in the main square gave a fair amount of bounce.
In addition to this, India has two more practice sessions before the first ODI match against Bangladesh which comes into the series with the confidence that they gained from clean sweeping Pakistan
