Team India to play second test on a flat wicket? Reports make a big claim

Looking at the upcoming second Test match against Bangladesh, the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh comes to mind as the most likely venue. This appears to be more accommodating as far as the weather patterns are concerned in stark difference to the previous Test played in Chennai.

With reference to ESPNCricinfo, the report goes on to add that the temperature in Kanpur is expected to go down as the day progresses with the pitch expected to be black soil which is likely to be different from that of Chennai. The expectatioons in terms of conditions in Kanpur would be much lower with regards to the bounce and overall; they would be more user friendly as opposed to the red clay surfaces.

The red soil pitch that was brought in Chennai worked quite well for the pacers as well as the spinners with nice and even bounce provided throughout the different stages. Fast bowlers were a menace with the new ball as bowlers usually are but so were Ashwin and the rest of the spinners with different chops of their top spin deliveries which morphed into spins by the fourth day of the Test.

Under black soil conditions, the pacers will most likely find it a challenge to get any bounce. The wear and tear of that pitch, the report says, would not alter the trend shown in the earlier condition. Batters would lose their aggressiveness on the flatter surface. There will be a particularly strong reliance on spin as the surface deteriorates, with many fissures on the surface available to exploit.

In terms of adjustments for the team, the same players have been sent to the second Test in Kanpur again by the Indian team. However, changes could be in the playing eleven with either Kuldeep Yadav or Axar Patel coming in for Akash Deep leading to a 2 pace, 3 spin combination for the home team.

In the case of Bangladesh, one major pitfall may be that of Shakib Al Hasan whose presence in the team is in trouble because of an injury. However, they have the likes of specialist spinner Taijul Islam who has prior experience in India and could be brought into the team in the place of pacer, Nahid Rana.
