The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) logged onto X (earlier Twitter) on Tuesday (November 19) to reveal India’s fifteen-member squad for the upcoming three ODI match series towards Australia. In the team chosen for the away series, there was no room for top-opening batter Shafali Verma neither was there any for spinner Shreyanka Patil.
As many as five cricketers from the team that played and won a three-match ODI series with New Zealand last month skipped the selection for the coming three matches, but Harleen Deol, Priya Punia, and wicketkeeper batter Richa Ghosh are in the squad again.
Richa did not play in the New Zealand series because she was occupied with her class 12 board examination.
The first 2 ODIs will take place at the Allan Border Field, Brisbane, and then the last match of the series, which is under ICC Women’s Championship, will be played at WACA Ground, Perth.
Shafali, so far, has played 29 ODIs and scored 644 runs, but in the last month home series against New Zealand, she could only manage 33, 11, and 12 scores in the three games. In the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, under Harmanpreet Kaur, she made 97 runs in four games.
The Indian Women’s National Team has welcomed back Harleen and she is expected to compete in her first match of the calendar year 2024. She has not taken part in any competition since March 2024. The 26-year-old Deol has so far played in 10 ODIs for the Women in Blue scoring 207 runs and taking two wickets.
India’s squad for three-match ODI series: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Priya Punia, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harleen Deol, Yastika Bhatia (WK), Richa Ghosh (WK), Tejal Hasabnis, Deepti Sharma, Minnu Mani, Priya Mishra, Radha Yadav, Titas Sadhu, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh Thakur, Saima Thakor.
