T20 World Cup: Rohit Sharma Was Against Hardik Pandya Selection, Hitman To Retire From Cricket After This Tournament

Dainik Jagran has published a surprising report according to which the selection of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya in India’s T20 World Cup squad was influenced by pressure from the BCCI.

The apex body views Pandya as a potential future captain for India’s white-ball cricket. Consequently, it purportedly directed the men’s selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, to incorporate Pandya in the squad and appoint him as Rohit Sharma’s deputy for the tournament.

As per the report, both Rohit and Agarkar were purportedly against Pandya’s selection, pointing out his recent poor performances with both bat and ball. The upcoming World Cup could signify the end of Sharma’s impressive T20I career, as he is reportedly contemplating retirement from the format as the tournament ends.

Since Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as Mumbai Indians captain, there have been reported tensions between the two prominent figures within the team.

In Mumbai Indians, Overseas players are more influenced by the captaincy of Hardik Pandya but the domestic players of MI still look up to Rohit Sharma for any kind of suggestions and advice.

Despite his talent, Rohit Sharma hasn’t experienced significant success in T20 World Cup tournaments. Given his age and recent form in T20 cricket, retirement appears to be a possibility for the Hitman after the ICC event in June.
