Suresh Raina to become CSK’s next batting Coach, Here’s what you need to know

Suresh Raina, the former India and Chennai Super Kings player, might be heading back to his old team as a batting coach after CSK’s last IPL 2025 match on Sunday, where they beat the Gujarat Titans by 83 runs in Ahmedabad. Raina is currently working as a commentator but hinted at rejoining CSK after the game. Right now, Michael Hussey is the batting coach, and CSK’s assistant bowling coach, S Sriram, didn’t say much when asked about Raina’s comments during the post-match press conference.

On Sunday, Raina was seen chatting with Aakash Chopra and Sanjay Bangar about CSK’s season. He mentioned that the team is looking for a new batting coach, and when Chopra joked about the new coach’s initials being ‘S’, Raina laughed and said, “He has made the fastest fifty. Raina has a strong history with CSK, scoring 5,529 runs in 200 T20 games and holding the record for the fastest fifty for the team, which he achieved in just 16 balls in IPL 2014. Chopra chimed in, saying, “Chalo ho gaya bhai (then it is done), you heard it first here!” which hinted at Raina’s possible return.

Hussey has been with CSK since 2018, but this season, the batting lineup didn’t perform as well. Still, they ended on a high note by defeating the Gujarat Titans, and there was some hope with the late signings of Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, and Urvil Patel.
