Legendary batter of the Indian cricket team Sunil Gavaskar made enormous predictions regarding the Champions Trophy semifinal between India and Australia in Dubai on Tuesday. Gavaskar had this for the encounter: India are clear favorites, and one major reason is that they know they will face Australia without players like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc, which has already done quite a damage to the form of Australia, according to Gavaskar. Australia spinners were not good enough, and that is going to be a major headache for them.
“On this surface, yes, because Australia don’t seem to have the kind of spinning attack, apart from the fact that they are missing out on key players like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc,” Gavaskar told India Today.
“Batting is fine. The batting is very aggressive-Giving India the ideal thing to maybe chase rather than Australia, said Gavaskar.
There has been plenty of speculation about the conditions in Dubai after New Zealand failed to chase a target of 250 and Indian spinners became sensational. Yet Gavaskar said that batting wasn’t half as impossible as difficult.
“Not at all. Well, if you had a look at our spinners in the first few overs, they did not get much help. A bit later, as the pitch got a little better after the rolling after the dew settled in, there was going to be a little more grip for spinners, but it isn’t impossible to bat on this surface,” said Gavaskar.
“There was a bit of turn. It’s just that the bowlers did so well that it was impossible for New Zealanders,” he said.
