Pakistan’s cricket team will be at the T20 World Cup 2026, but they’re skipping the match against India. They were supposed to play India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, on February 15 in Colombo. Pakistan dropped this news on Sunday because of the International Cricket Council’s call on the Bangladesh thing.
Bangladesh wanted to move their T20 World Cup games out of India after Mustafizur Rahman left the Indian Premier League. Pakistan backed Bangladesh, but the ICC said no, so Scotland subbed in for Bangladesh.
Now, a week after the ICC’s ruling, Pakistan doesn’t want to play India. Sunil Gavaskar, ex-captain of India, thinks the top cricket board should punish Pakistan so this doesn’t happen again.
Gavaskar told India Today that if you back out last minute, it’s a problem. He thinks the ICC should step in and do something to stop other teams from doing the same in the future. He figures the ICC may even sue Pakistan for not playing India, but he doesn’t know how that’ll turn out. He is sure the ICC is not happy with Pakistan’s choice.
Pakistan’s in Group A of the T20 World Cup 2026 with India, Namibia, USA, and the Netherlands.
It’s interesting that Pakistan made this call on Sunday while their U19 team was playing a big Super Six game against India at the U19 World Cup 2026 in Bulawayo.
India U19 beat Pakistan U19 by 58 runs, knocking them out and getting themselves a semi-final game with Afghanistan U19.
