Sunil Gavaskar drops a massive verdict regarding Vaibhav Suryavanshi after Southpaw scores a duck

An incredible century by Rajasthan Royals player Vaibhav Suryavanshi entertained everyone when he smoked the century against Gujarat Titans at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, in late April during IPL 2025. He made the ton within a mere 35 balls, thus becoming the fastest Indian to score the century in IPL history. The left-handed batter scored a total of 101 runs in 38 balls, with 7 fours and 11 sixes. It was a great show by the 14-year-old, and many in the cricketing world were amazed. This was just his fourth match of the T20 tourney.

While he was basking in all the glory, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar suggested that we should not go overboard with compliments and let Suryavanshi play his game. He mentioned the young player had already made a statement when he had scored a century against Australia in an Under-19 Test when he was just 13.

Gavaskar said, From here on, he will only get better. With Rahul Dravid, he will know how to pace his innings. Then hitting a six off the first ball of his first game shouldn’t pressurize him too much to keep doing that. The bowlers would catch up with it then, and it might become difficult for him.

He stressed that a score of 50 or 60 runs in T20 is terrific. An international-class century, however, with this batting talent really deserves special mention, especially when batting against world-class bowlers.

Gavaskar’s words proved true when Suryavanshi got out for a duck in the match with MI, caught after hitting a fuller ball straight down to a fielder’s hands.
