Sunil Gavaskar drops a massive statement regarding Virat Kohli, feels…

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma proved that their respective batting skills may not be bringing India glory in Australia with their failures at the ground. With the looming retirement topic already around India captain Rohit, Kohli, too, finds himself in the firing line over this lone mistake in the entire tour Down Under that has cost him his wicket. Not mincing his words, India’s great Sunil Gavaskar gave a big food for thought to the selectors regarding them thinking about the future of senior players like Kohli and Rohit in the Indian team.

Specifically referring to Kohli, Gavaskar said that moving one’s foot while playing outside off deliveries creates a problem of repeated dismissals.

“The (Kohli’s) foot is not going to the pitch of the ball, the foot is going straight down the pitch, not towards the ball. If the foot goes more towards the ball, you have more chances of hitting the ball from the middle,” Gavaskar told India Today.

“Because the foot is not moving, you end up reaching for the ball, and that is what has been happening,” he added.

For, while this transition is happening, Gavaskar seems to think that Ajit Agarkar, the chief of selectors, and others on the selection panel of the BCCI will have to decide what to do with them, given the lack of contributions they have made.

“All really depends on the selectors. The contributions that were expected did not come forth. It is the top-order which has to contribute; if the top-order is not contributing, why blame the lower-order,” he added.

“The seniors have not really made the contribution that they should have, all that they had to do was bat out today and live to fight another day in Sydney,” Gavaskar asserted.

For it, Gavaskar believes that failure of seniors remains number one reason for India finding themselves in this kind of situation so far in Australia.

“…it’s just that the top order didn’t contribute and that’s why India found itself in this position,” ” added he.
