Shubman Gill has really stepped up as a leader this season in IPL 2025. Under his captaincy, the Gujarat Titans bounced back after a tough 2024, making it to the playoffs with 9 wins out of 14 matches. Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar thinks Gill has grown, both as a player and as a captain, especially learning from last year’s challenges.
As the team gears up for their Eliminator match against the Mumbai Indians in Mullanpur, Gavaskar shared how Gill has changed on and off the field, bringing stability and success to the Titans. After a rough 2024 season where they finished eighth with just five wins, Gill turned things around this year, racking up 649 runs in 14 games.
Gavaskar talked about Gill’s leadership style, explaining that he’s become more selfless and calm. “What he learned from last year… he faced a tough time as captain, but now he’s leading smartly, especially in managing players like Sai Sudharsan,” Gavaskar noted. Gill is happy to let Sudharsan take charge when he’s on a roll, which shows his growth as a leader.
Not only has Gill’s batting improved, but also his emotional control. Gavaskar mentioned that when things go wrong on the field, like a dropped catch, Gill stays calm and encourages his teammates rather than showing frustration. “That’s what makes a good leader, especially under pressure,” he said. Gavaskar emphasized that this kind of support boosts team morale, showing players that their captain backs them.
With his steady leadership, smart decisions, and solid batting, Shubman Gill has not only revived GT’s chances this season but has also earned the honor of leading India in the upcoming Test series against England.
