Once again, a testament to Rohit Sharma’s stratagem, the captain of Team India, the team had to make up after a weather-induced trap in the Kanpur Test against Icc Cricket- – Bangladesh where they went ahead to win and seal the series. In the 2nd Test between India and Bangladesh, performed in the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, the first two days were a complete wash out for the teams as it rained, and the outfield was wet, which made the hosts very aggressive and strategic upon return on Day four. As the game entered Day 5, Rohit cooked up a master plan to get rid of Mominul Haque, who had scored the highest runs in the first innings against India. Rohit’s strategy even left Sunil Gavaskar , who was commentating during the on-going proceedings, astonished.
So as Mominul which batter was now facing Ravichandran Ashwin in the second innings went into the bat, Rohit had kept a leg slip for him. Caught holding a leg-slip in his place, Kl Rahul made no error as he comfortably held the outgoing culpable, Mominul, off the bowling of Ashwin. Though the credit for the dismissal should also go to Ashwin and Rahul, such tactics from a captain were certainly striking to Gavaskar.
“Fantastic captaincy by Rohit Sharma. He deserves all the praise for doing this, especially because someone like Mominul who is an avid sweeper has been made targets of a leg slip.”
Sunil Gavaskar said, “great captaincy from Rohit Sharma. He fully deserves the credit here, putting a leg slip for someone like Mominul who plays the sweep shot a lot”.
Regarding the match, India triumphed by 7 wickets and finished the series with a 2-0 lead. In the second innings of the match, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets each to limit the target for India to 95 runs only to win the contest.
With the bat, Yashasvi Jaiswal gave the team another flying start at the top while Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant gave finishing touch.
