Sunil Gavaskar drops a massive compliment on Virat Kohli

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar thinks Virat Kohli’s approach to playing big shots early in his innings makes him a real challenge for bowlers. In the past, Kohli would usually wait until later in his innings to start hitting those big shots, but now he’s ready to take risks right from the start. This was evident when Kohli scored 67 runs off just 42 balls, helping Royal Challengers Bengaluru rack up 221 runs against the opposition.

Gavaskar shared his thoughts during a chat on JioHotstar, saying that Kohli’s change in mindset really throws bowlers off. Instead of just preparing for his regular drives and flicks, they now have to deal with him sending balls over the infield for boundaries early on.

He also had some advice for Rohit Sharma of the Mumbai Indians, suggesting that Rohit should be more careful with his shot selection. Gavaskar pointed out that when Rohit gets out during the power play, it hurts the team, whether it’s for Mumbai or India. He emphasized that while being aggressive is important in the first six overs, picking the right risks is crucial.

In a recent match, Rohit scored just 17 runs before getting out, while Suryakumar Yadav struggled to make an impact with a 28-run innings that took him 26 balls. Gavaskar noted that Jasprit Bumrah, returning from a three-month injury absence, will keep getting better with more games. He was happy to see Bumrah bowling at his usual pace of over 140 km/h and believes that with time, he could even reach 150 km/h as he regains confidence in his back
