India lost a five-match Test series with Australia 3-1. Sunil Gavaskar slammed the coaching staff for the loss. Thus, batting on the match against New Zealand and Australia was questioned whether India still needs the same back-room staff in the future, after which Gavaskar asked what they were doing enough to motivate their players.
“What is your coaching staff about? A batting coach needs to be discussed. Look at New Zealand again in the Tests. Each time we have been blown away for really low scores. We have lost all our matches and even our batting was never strong. Even over here in Australia, our batting hasn’t shown any strength. So, those are the questions that must be asked – What have you done? Why cannot we see any improvement,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.
“You could point out that the deliveries were so good that our batters couldn’t play them well. But fine. It is possible for a bowler to be of that caliber and his deliveries that good. Great batsman even falters with good deliveries. But not if that is not the case. Then you need to show what you have done in that case.”
“There have been questions concerning certain players in the future. First, we have to question if this coaching staff should continue in the future. We still have 2-3 months before the series against England. I am not even talking about Champions Trophy; I am talking about playing the five-match Test series in England.”
“Ask – What have you done? How will you make the players better? Throw-downs will produce nothing. One will need to work on their technique as well as their temperament,” Gavaskar added.
