Steve Smith drops about his planning for the future in international cricket

CRIC Informer

Australian cricket star Steve Smith recently talked about his plans as he prepares for the big game against South Africa in the World Test Championship final. He’s one of the key players for Australia and has been performing really well lately. Since hitting a century against India in Brisbane, he’s scored four hundreds in just eight innings, and he continued this strong performance in the series against Sri Lanka.

When asked about his future, including the 2027 India tour and the upcoming Ashes, Smith said he’s not focusing too far ahead. I’m taking it day by day, he mentioned. As long as I’m enjoying my game and contributing to the team, I’m happy. But 2027 feels pretty distant right now.

Smith shared that he took a break from batting for three months after the Champions Trophy. I usually have my bat around and do some practice, but I decided to put it down for a while. It felt good, he said. He hadn’t picked up a bat since he missed a full toss from Mohammed Shami in the Champions Trophy. But when I came back, everything fell into place right away. I feel strong and ready to go.

He mentioned that usually, his first practice session goes well, but the second one is rough, and then he improves. This time, both sessions went really well, and I thought, let’s hope it stays this way and I don’t end up spending hours in the nets the next couple of days.
