Star Indian Pacer Is The Leading Contender To Become Chief Selector

Following the recent controversy and subsequent resignation of Chetan Sharma from the position of chief selector, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has initiated the search for a suitable candidate to fill the vacant role. After days of speculation and numerous names being thrown into the mix, former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar has emerged as the leading contender for the coveted position. Agarkar, who enjoyed a successful international career, will need to resign from his current role as Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach if he secures the position.

The BCCI found itself in need of a new chief selector after Chetan Sharma was forced to step down following a leaked sting operation. Sharma’s disclosure of confidential information about the Indian cricket team caused a major uproar within the cricketing community and prompted his resignation. Shiv Sundar Das has temporarily assumed the position of interim chief selector until a permanent replacement is found.

Ajit Agarkar, a former Indian pacer, has now emerged as the frontrunner for the chief selector role. The 45-year-old retired from international cricket in 2013 after an illustrious career. Agarkar represented India in 26 Test matches and 191 One Day Internationals (ODIs). His experience and understanding of the game make him an ideal candidate for the position. Interestingly, Agarkar had previously applied for the chief selector role in November 2022 but failed to make it to the shortlist. However, he now seems to be in a favorable position to secure the prestigious role.

If Agarkar indeed becomes the chief selector, he will have to relinquish his role as the assistant coach of the Delhi Capitals. This would mark a significant transition for Agarkar, as he steps into a prominent position responsible for shaping the future of Indian cricket. The chief selector plays a crucial role in the selection of players for the national team, which includes identifying talent, monitoring performance, and making informed decisions to strengthen the Indian side.
