The Sri Lankan team won the 2nd T20I against India by 16 runs in Pune. With this win, the Sri Lanka team achieved a milestone of defeating the Indian team in India after 7 years.
Earlier, they won the T20I against India in Pune in the 2015-16 series under the captaincy of Dinesh Chandimal. The skipper of yesterday’s Sri Lankan team, Shanaka, was also featured in that match and grabbed 3 wickets. However, that match was also played by Rajitha, who bagged 3 wickets.
These two players have also performed well in every area. Rajitha took two important wickets from the opener batter, Ishan and Gill, in the first over of his spell.
Skipper Dasun Shanaka played a blistering knock of 56 runs off 22 with the help of 2 fours and 6 elegant sixes; however, wicket-keeper batter Kusal Mendis scored 52 runs on 31 balls, giving a good start to the team with Pathum Nissanka (33). Kusal’s innings were laced with 3 fours and 4 sixes. Indian young speedster Umran Malik took 3 wickets, and all-rounder Axar Patel grabbed 2 wickets; however, Chahal bagged one wicket.
Indian players showed disappointing performance in every area of the match. First, in the bowling alley, bowlers have struggled to take wickets and disappointed everyone by giving extra runs. In the batting, the Indian team lost five wickets on just 57 runs. After this, Surya Kumar Yadav and Axar Patel tried to settle down the innings; they both scored half-centuries for the team but weren’t enough to win the match.
