The Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team is not only experiencing trouble on the field but also outside it in South Africa where the Women’s T20 World Cup is happening. According to the latest report, Shohely Akhter, the senior cricket player, approached all-arounder Lata Mondal for spot-fixing.
For Australia’s encounter at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Lata was, though, benched and she was not part of the final XI. Also, Bangladesh lost the match against Australia on Tuesday by eight 8 wickets. On the other hand, Bangladesh Cricket Board has organized a meeting to keep an investigation over the spot-fixing allegations.
A member of the Bangladesh Cricket Board quoted,” The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is strictly looking into the matter and will investigate the issue.”
The news of spot-fixing emerged on social media after a journalist tweeted, “Shohely Akhter, a senior cricketer, had approached Lata Mondal with a corrupt approach ahead of Bangladesh’s match against Australia in the #T20WorldCup. Was it the reason Lata was dropped from the XI?.”
According to a news outbreak by Bangladeshi media, Shohely Akhter reportedly acknowledged accepting an offer from gambler Aakash. Akhter claims that to disprove the gambler, she approached Lata Mondal after meeting Aakash on Facebook.

Shohely Akhter: There is nothing to be afraid of. I will never harm you. You can fix when you want, and not fix when you don’t want to. If you feel like playing, you can. It’s up to you which match you want to play.
Shohely Akhter: Suppose you played well in a match, then you can play (fix) in the next match. You may get stumped or hit -wicket. If you say you won’t get a hit-wicket for 20-30 lakhs then get stumped for 5 lacks. If you feel it is less then you can say it. Then I’ll tell my brother. Just remember that this is between you and me.
Lata Mandal: Friend, I’m not into all these. I can’t do such things. Please, don’t tell me such things.
Akhter: Friend, what I told you will remain between you and me. Trust me a hundred percent.
However, there have been more instances of this kind in Bangladesh cricket. Shakib Al Hasan, their star player, was suspended for a year by the ICC for failing to report a corrupt approach.
