Cricket South Africa has announced the squad for the upcoming White-ball series against Australia. The 20-year old batter Dewald Brevis has got his name in the squad. Brevis has already played in the numerous T20 leagues including the Indian Premier League.
There will be a T20I and ODI series between Africa and Australia and this will be the only tour Africa will be playing before jumping into the massive 2023 ODI World Cup.
South African coach Rob Walter confirmed that Brevis is the part of the squad and he will most probably take his batting charge in the middle-order.
It’s nice to be able to give him an opportunity. He is one of our up-and-coming youngsters. We want to just broaden our base a little bit and this Australia series is an opportunity to give him a run,” Walter said.
He further added,”won’t be calling him Baby AB [de Villiers]. We will leave AB to be AB. He [Brevis] is a fairly grounded young guy. It’s just about creating an environment to express himself in.”
Keshav Maharaj who was suffering from an injury has been also called for the series set to commence on August 30.
