SL vs AFG: Sri Lanka Announces 16-Member Squad For The Only Test Match Against Afghanistan, 3 Uncapped Included

Sri Lanka Cricket has announced the 16-member squad for the one-off Test match against the Afghanistan cricket team which will be played from Friday, February 2, 2024.

In the Test squad, Sri Lanka has included three players who are yet to make their Test debut, they are wicketkeeper-batsman Lahiru Udara, fast bowler Chamika Gunasekara, and Milan Rathnayake. While Udara and Gunasekara have prior experience in T20Is and ODIs for the national team, Rathnayake has yet to get a chance in any format.

After a strong performance against Zimbabwe, a team led by Dhananjaya De Silva from Sri Lanka is prepared to face Afghanistan in a one-off Test, led by Hasmatullah Shahidi. The Sri Lanka side is set to return to Test cricket for the first time since their less-than-ideal performance at the 2023 ODI World Cup.

The upcoming match is poised to signify the beginning of Dhananjaya De Silva’s tenure as the Test captain for the Sri Lankan side, with Kusal Mendis who will be the vice-captain.
