As expected, Indian cricket team pacer Mohammed Siraj and Australia batter Travis Head are all set to be punished for their fight on the Day 2 of the second Test at the Adelaide Oval. Siraj was seen sending Head off after he had got the better of the Australia star, and along with that there had been some comments made. Although not much difference in the way Head and Siraj spoke about the content of their conversations, it prompted action from across the cricketing fraternity. Both have their own versions of the story, but a report has claimed that both of them would face punishment by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the act.
However, it is not likely that either of the two would be suspended because, typically, when there are on-field incidents at their venues, all that they would be issued are fines meted out to them.
According to a report of The Daily Telegraph, both players have attracted the top body and punishment would be forthcoming after a disciplinary hearing today.
What Travis Head Said On The Incident?
“It probably (went) a little bit far; that’s why I’m disappointed in the reaction I gave back, but I’m also going to stand up for myself. Like to think in our team, we wouldn’t do that. [It’s] not the way I’d like to play the game and feel like my teammates are the same. If I see that, I probably call it out, which I did,” Head said during the press conference.
What Mohammed Siraj Said About the Incident?
“When you get hit for six off a good ball, you get fired up differently. When I bowled him over, only celebrated, and you have seen the rest on TV, he abused me,” he told Star Sports. “I only celebrated at the beginning; I never said anything to him. What he said in the press conference wasn’t right, it’s a lie that he only said ‘well bowled’ to me. Everybody can see it: that is not what he said to me. We respect everybody; it is not like we don’t disrespect other players. I respect everybody because cricket is a gentleman’s game, but that was not right. I did not like it at all.”
Siraj was said to have met Head in the middle for a brief word about the incident, which saw the hatchet buried, as he came out to bat on Day 3 of the pink-ball Test. Immediately after the match, the two also exchanged a hug, much to the delight of social media.
