Simon Doull lambast Rishabh Pant after repetitive failures

Rishabh Pant was bought for a massive Rs. 27 crore, which is a record for the Indian Premier League, but he’s really underwhelmed this season with the Lucknow Super Giants. As captain and wicket-keeper, he’s only managed to score 135 runs in 12 matches, falling short both at the plate and as a leader. After their recent loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad, it’s clear that LSG won’t make the playoffs this year, and Pant has been labeled just an “okay player,” especially in T20 cricket.

Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull shared his thoughts on Cricbuzz, saying Pant struggles in this shorter format. He explained that while Pant is fantastic in Tests, his T20 performance doesn’t reflect that skill. Doull mentioned, “He hasn’t set the bar very high this season, just been okay by T20 standards.”

Before Pant was picked in the mega auction, Nicholas Pooran was a top contender for the captaincy. But once Pant was on board, the team decided to name him captain, likely due to the need for a local leader. Doull pointed out that having a local captain can be valuable, especially when managing players’ form throughout the season.

With just two matches left, Pant will be looking to turn things around and finish strong, while also preparing for next season.
