Even though Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill had some issues with his back in the last match, he is expected to play against SunRisers Hyderabad. The back spasm made him unable to field against Rajasthan Royals on April 28. After 9 games, Gujarat is performing very strongly in this IPL edition, with as many as 12 points. They have enjoyed a top 2 ranking up to now in this tournament and want to continue the good run as they head for completion.
“I have talked about Gill in the pre-match press conference,” said Vikram Solanki, director of cricket for Gujarat. “It was precautionary pulling him off the field, and he is most likely to feature against SRH.” In their last game, Gujarat lost dramatically to Rajasthan, when an incredible innings of 35 balls hundred was scored by 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, making it the second fastest in IPL history, recording the first loss for Gujarat in three matches.
Before the game with SRH in Ahmedabad, Solanki said, “His fitness was a bit of a concern with the back spasm. We’re just being careful. He’ll be at training today, and we’re pretty confident he’ll be fine.”.
Besides, Solanki explained that the awesome innings of Suryavanshi did not necessarily put additional pressure on the team. “I don’t think that there is a problem in the team. Nothing is going to be taken away from that young man he’d played well,” he noted. He also specified that better planning could have been done in the process of Suryavanshi’s innings.
Gujarat must be a little wary of SRH, who has to win all their remaining matches to still be in contention for a spot in the IPL playoffs. In their last match, SRH barely managed to beat the Chennai Super Kings. Solanki said, “We have to give respect to SRH. They are a good side with match-winners everywhere.” On this occasion, SRH took a little break in the Maldives, so it would be interesting to see how the SRH bats handle the in-form pacers, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, from Gujarat.
