Shubman Gill post on X after India’s victory wins the internet

Shubman Gill, the India captain, posted on X on Sunday (Monday IST) after India’s 336-run win over England in the second Test of the five-match series.

In the match at Edgbaston, Birmingham from July 2 to 6, Gill scored 430 runs. He scored 269 runs off 387 balls in the first innings and 161 runs off 162 balls on Saturday. Gill was awarded the Player of the Match.

After becoming the first Indian captain to win a Test in Birmingham, Gill posted four pics from the match on X with the caption, “Be in love with the grind and the game will give back. He is the first Indian and fifth overall to score 400 runs in a Test. He also broke the record for most runs in a Test away from home. During his 269-run innings, Gill broke Virat Kohli’s record for most runs in a single Test innings by an Indian.

The 25-year-old from Punjab, who was appointed captain on May 24, 2025, is the first Asian captain to score a double century in SENA countries. Today he became the youngest Indian captain to win a Test abroad.

Ravindra Jadeja also batted well and Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj bowled well. Siraj took 6 for 70 in the first innings and Akash Deep took 4 for 88 in the first innings and 6 for 99 in the second to finish with 10 for 187.
